🚴‍♀️ Yesterday we explored a section of the Parenzana, a former railway line that has been transformed into a cycling, running and hiking path connecting Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia.

An impressive cross-border initiative that blends nature, heritage, and sustainable tourism. 🌍 The harmony of the infrastructure

was impressive knowing it was not along one but several countries.

The segment we rode offered interesting views and well-maintained infrastructure supported by the European Union : signage, rest areas, repair stations, all in good condition. It crosses idillic villages highlighting local business with distinct information.

While the route is ideal for mountain bikes, hikers, and runners, it’s a bit too rocky for bikepackingwith thin tires and gear-heavy setups.

Even during the low season, we encountered several tour groups, including one with over 30 riders led by guides. Most were using e-bikes, which are fantastic tools for accessibility:  allowing more people to experience the outdoors. However, we also observed some unadapted behavior that raised important questions:

🟡 How can we better educate all users, especially in groups, on respectful and safe outdoor practices?

🟡 Could professional guides play a stronger role in promoting trail adapted behaviour and environmental awareness?

With the growing popularity of trails like Parenzana, it’s crucial we keep the focus on shared responsibility and sustainability.

👉 Thoughts? Have you seen effective ways to raise awareness among recreational users and tour groups?
